To our NREVSD Community:
As the waters of the Ohio River continue to recede, I would like to take a few minutes to talk to you today about how the district is responding to this past weekend's flood.
For starters, my heart goes out to all of those affected by this terrible event. I cannot fathom how you must be feeling right now.
As I've learned over my four years in the district, the village of New Richmond is unlike any other. This community has been tested in numerous ways over the years and it always bounces back stronger. There is not a doubt in my mind it will come together and do so yet again.
Speaking strictly about the school district now, I would like to talk to you for a moment about our response, particularly as it involves switching to remote learning days.
Every district gets three remote learning days per school year, per Ohio law. Wednesday, April 9 was the third and final such day for the district.
Heading into this school year, NREVSD had several extra hours built into the school calendar, just in case. With all the snow we received in January, we burned through almost all of that time quickly.
The situation remains fluid (no pun intended) and each day I look to make the best decision I can after consulting with several different organizations on the ground here in New Richmond.
After today’s meeting, I have decided to use some of our remaining time to close school tomorrow, April 10, 2025.. Please note that this is not a remote learning day. Students will not be asked to sign into online classes Thursday, April 10. The goal is to return to a regular, in-person learning schedule tomorrow, Friday, April 11, should conditions allow.
Please note that Grant Career Center students should still report to NRHS by 7:20 a.m. to be bussed to Grant. All athletic events, including the New Richmond Relays, scheduled for April 10 are on as scheduled.
Should your child need assistance completing any missed assignments during this time, please reach out to your building. There's not a doubt in my mind our secretaries and teachers will do whatever they can to work with you as we all get through this.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jill Hollandsworth
NREVSD Interim Superintendent
