The final New Richmond Exempted Village School District Board of Education meeting of 2024 saw exciting updates for the 2025-2026 school year, a quartet of deserving Leading Lions and a fond ‘goodbye’ to retiring Superintendent Tracey Miller.

Four NRHS students named December Leading Lions

Maya Dunham, Izzie Hollander, Lillian Maher and Chloe Spears are members of the NRHS cross country team. Earlier this year, the four athletes came to the aid of a community member in need.

“They were out getting some work in and they heard a resident in distress,” NREVSD Secondary principal Joe Stewart said. “They stayed with him, provided assistance, ran and got a neighbor.”

Mr. Stewart emphasized how proud he was of the students, noting it’s the type of behavior all NRHS students should look to follow.

“This is the behavior that all of our students should embody,” Mr. Stewart said. “The call to service, the selfless act, it’s phenomenal.”

Mr. Miller honored at final BOE meeting as NREVSD superintendent

December 16 marked the final board of education meeting for superintendent Tracey Miller, who intends to retire at the end of the month. Mr. Miller received a proclamation from the Ohio State House of Representatives via State Representative Adam Bird (pictured above) for his tireless work during an educational career that spanned the parts of five decades. He was also presented with a signed New Richmond football helmet from the board of education.

Thank you Mr. Miller for all you have done for our district!

Cincinnati Children’s contract approved

The NREVSD Board of Education gave final approval to a contract between the district and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to bring a school-based health clinic to New Richmond Middle School.

The contract and a lease agreement can be viewed on BoardDocs. An official announcement is planned following the holidays.

Exciting new classes coming to NRMS, NRHS

Mr. Stewart gave a second presentation later in the evening regarding exciting course changes at NRMS and NRHS next August.

Thanks to a new partnership with Grant Career Center, a trio of new construction classes will be coming to the district beginning next fall.

A ‘Core and Sustainable Construction’ course will serve as the introduction for students in grades 9-10. Some sections will also be held for students in the middle school.

Another class, Principles of Wood Construction, will replace the current ‘Woods’ class offered at NRHS with the retirement of Mr. Deron Shinkle.

Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Systems will be offered to students in grades 10-12 beginning next year.

In the marketing department, two current classes will be refreshed to better align with current events. The ‘Fundamentals of Business: Sports and Entertainment’ course is perfect for students who would be interested in careers in sports management, entertainment marketing, and more.

“We’re doing it through a different lens to excite the students,” Mr. Stewart said. “

A class titled ‘Sports and Entertainment in Marketing’ will take a deeper dive into the specifics surrounding event marketing, like promotion, licensing, branding and more.

An Advanced Physical Science class will be offered to eighth and 10th grade students beginning next year. This course will be an introduction to physics for students on our advanced science pathway, providing a background in physics for higher-level classes later on.

“This gives students coming out of ninth grade biology who want to take AP physics a semester of physics teaching so they’re not jumping in without background in physics,” Mr. Stewart said.

A college prep English composition class will also be added. Several students already take similar courses out of the district. This offering will help keep those students on campus while earning the same college credits as before.

Treasurer contract renewed

At the December meeting, the NREVSD Board of Education renewed Treasurer Matthew Prichard’s contract for three years beginning on August 1, 2025 and ending on July 31, 2028.

Mr. Prichard has served as the district’s treasurer since August of 2021. Prior to that, he had spent 17 years as the NREVSD systems engineer. Having that kind of continuity and familiarity is crucial as the district navigates financial challenges caused by the closure of the Zimmer Power Plant.

“Having continuity of the treasurer who knows where we’re going, what our savings plan has been and what we’re about to face is really important,” Mrs. Story said.
