Last month, the New Richmond Exempted Village School District shared an exciting grant announcement that would see the district receive over $700,000 from the state of Ohio.
Now, it’s time to share some of the plans for that money, beginning with the creation of a school-based health center at New Richmond Middle School.
In partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, NREVSD surveyed parents across the district and found 70 percent of those responses were in favor of allowing their child to be treated at a school-based health center.
This grant would allow the district to bring those services to the community. In 2023, Children’s Hospital identified over 7,000 unique patients from our area that utilized at least one service offered by the hospital.
The clinic would be housed in what is currently a technology storage facility and part of a teacher work area. A 1,400 square-foot renovation of that space would create an external entrance, three exam rooms, storage space, and a reception area.
Students at New Richmond Middle School would have a separate, secure hallway to enter the clinic while students outside of the building and members of the community can enter through the newly-created external entrance.
In addition, part of the grant is slated to renovate space at New Richmond High School to add a satellite office for the Clermont County BCW/Workforce and Ohio Means Jobs.
The proposal calls for space in the current office/conference space of New Richmond High School to be reconfigured, relocating secretary stations to the main entry of the office and shifting another office to provide adequate space for the BCW/Workforce and Ohio Means Jobs offices.
The offices will be staffed by Clermont County Jobs and Family Services, a partnership that began in 2022. These services will be available to all members of the community, not just students. Non-school personnel will enter through the main office and be escorted to their destination.
Additionally, the office suite will have classroom space for adult training and retraining programs during the day and at night. Other adult education activities could be made available through a partnership with the Grant Career Center.
None of the plans are finalized until approved by the NREVSD Board of Education. The board is scheduled to consider accepting the grant at the Monday, July 15 regular meeting.
