After an educational career spanning parts of five different decades, New Richmond Exempted Village School District Superintendent Tracey Miller has announced his intent to retire after January 1, 2025, around the beginning of the second semester.
“I want to thank the community for all of your support the past five plus years," Mr. Miller said. "We have faced many challenges (covid, a successful levy request and two power plants closing to name a few), but together, we have persevered and come through stronger than ever. The next superintendent will be very lucky to come to such a special community.”
Mr. Miller joined NREVSD in 2019 after spending 16 years in various roles for Dublin City Schools in Dublin, Ohio. During that time, he earned praise from his colleagues for his collaboration, communication and his leadership.
All of those qualities served him well during his time in New Richmond. Less than a year after beginning his position, Mr. Miller helped guide the district through the never-ending changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the midst of those challenges, the Zimmer Power Plant’s closure coupled with the decommissioning of the Beckjord Plant years earlier dealt another blow to the district’s financial outlook.
During his time in New Richmond, Mr. Miller helped shepherd the district through those tumultuous times while fostering growth and academic excellence.
Just this past year alone, New Richmond High School earned a U.S. News and World Report Top High School honor for the first time in the district’s history. The preschool program at Locust Corner Elementary earned Ohio’s Momentum Award due to remarkable strides in enhancing student performance and fostering academic advancement.
Those accomplishments barely scratch the surface of the district’s achievements over the last five years. None of them would have been possible without the strong support of the district’s staff members, whom Mr. Miller thanked for their tireless efforts.
“Everything we accomplished was due to people working together and making decisions based on what is best for our students," Mr. Miller said. "Excellence is rarely achieved alone. There is an amazing team in place here. I will forever cherish and be grateful for the many wonderful relationships I have made with so many incredible people in this district. If this is my last chapter, it has certainly been a storybook ending!”
Information on the upcoming search for Mr. Miller’s replacement will be shared with the public in the near future.
